CAIUS LODGE No. 3355
Caius Lodge is the Masonic Lodge primarily for members of Gonville and Caius College, with up to 15% of the Lodge being relatives of graduate members of the college. Apart from Caius, Trinity and St. John’s colleges also have their own Lodges. All three Lodges meet in London and are part of the Metropolitan Grand Lodge. There is also a University Lodge, the Isaac Newton University Lodge, which undergraduates of any college can join.
Caius Lodge meets three times a year, on the first Fridays in November, February and June and is a good way to keep up your college links.
The June meeting is always in Cambridge, at the Bateman Street Masonic Centre, when we install our new Master. Dinner afterwards is in the College often in the Fellows Dining Room. We have Ladies Luncheon in College on Saturday the day after the June Meeting.
For the November and February meetings we are at Grand Lodge, Freemasons Hall in Great Queen Street, Holborn and we normally dine at the Oxford & Cambridge Club in Pall Mall.
Apart from the camaraderie of fellow Caians, our main raison d’etres is to raise money for charity. As part of this, Caius Lodge funds the Sir Harold Gillies Bursary at the college to enable Caians, who are in financial difficulties, to continue their college education. This amounts to £3,000 per year and we hope soon to be able to supply two bursaries.
The Lodge is also a member of the Oxford & Cambridge University Lodges Council and is now a member of the Association of Medical & University Lodges.
